Change Password
Changing a Password from the Application Selection Menu Page
The State Controller's Office (SCO) recommends each user change their password the first time they access the SCO secure Application Selection Menu page. There may be times when it becomes necessary, because of security reasons, for a user to change their password. If this is the case, click on the button on the Application Selection Menu page.
After clicking the 'Change Password' button, a second small window will open. The figure below is what the Password Change Request window will look like.

Name
Your name and agency code will be displayed and cannot be changed.
Current Password
Type your current password. This password must be correct before you can successfully change your password to a new one.
New Password
Type your new password. The new password must have a minimum of eight characters. The new password may have upper and lower case alpha characters with at least one numeric value. Special characters may be used with at least one alpha character and one numeric value.
Verify New Password
You must type your new password again for verification. If the new password does not identically match in both fields (New Password and Verify New Password) you will receive an error message.
Cancel
Allows you to exit the Change Password request window and return to the Application Selection Menu page without making any changes to your password.
Submit
After filling in all three fields, click the 'Submit' button to update your password. A message will be displayed confirming the password change was successful. Once your password has been changed, it may take up to 30 minutes to be updated on the server at the State Controller's Office. Please remember your new password.
Forgot Password
State employees may request their password be re-set. When logging on, if you cannot remember your password, click on the 'Forgot Password' button. You must answer your challenge question correctly for a new password to automatically be generated for you. A message will display the e-mail address where your new password will be sent (verify this is your correct e-mail address). Click the 'Submit' button and another message confirms that a new password is being sent to your state e-mail address. For security reasons, the State Controller's Office cannot accept requests from personal or other non-official state e-mail addresses.
If you cannot remember your password or challenge answer, you must send an e-mail request with your user name and agency code to: scohelpdesk@sco.idaho.gov.
Expired Password
Passwords will expire every 180 days. Users will receive a warning message fifteen (15) days prior to the expiration date. During the fifteen (15) day period, a message will be displayed showing the remaining number of days until the password is no longer valid.
If your password expires, you will receive a message 'Your Password has expired. You must update your password before you can logon'. When you click 'OK', you will be taken to the Password Change Request' screen. Once you have updated your password, please wait 30 minutes before logging on. If you cannot remember your expired password, you must contact scohelpdesk@sco.idaho.gov.
Invalid E-mail Address
If you do not have a valid state of Idaho e-mail address or have difficulties e-mailing the SCO Help Desk, your Agency Security Administrator may initiate a password re-set for you.
Challenge Question/Answer
All users will be required (one time only) to select and answer a challenge question. Challenge answers are not case sensitive and can be changed as often as you like. If you forget your password when attempting to logon, click on the 'Forgot Password' button. A window will open where you may select your challenge question, type your answer and a new password will be e-mailed to you. Your challenge question may also be changed by clicking the button.
What Can You Do For Added Security?
- Do not share your password with anyone.
- You can change your password online as often as you like. Do not use birthdays, telephone numbers, or names that might be easy for others to determine.
