Land Board Cuts $27 Million Check for Schools at Arbor Day Celebration
Boise, Idaho – Flanked by schoolchildren from Taft Elementary School, Idaho State Controller Donna Jones, along with Governor Risch and Secretary of State Ysursa, presented a check for $26,995,000 to the Idaho Department of Education.
“Along with my fellow Land Board members, I was proud to deliver nearly $27 million from our trust lands to our schools,” said State Controller Jones.
Idaho’s Governor, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Instruction, Attorney General and State Controller are constitutionally charged with managing about 2.5 million acres of endowment land for the long-term benefit of our schools. About 750,000 acres of the endowment lands are forests.
“More than 80% of the money comes from our endowment forests,” said Jones. “These are working forests that help school districts throughout Idaho purchase books, pay teachers, and buy equipment.”
