The Original IPOPS application was designed to automate the processing of the State Employment forms, data capture, validation and approval routing processing. The first phase of IPOPS was rolled out in 1999. Employee self-service and open enrollment processes were added in 2005. The age and design of the system is well past its prime for a Web based application. Technology has evolved; therefore, we are forging ahead with the creation of Version 2.0 of IPOPS.
This document is a high level overview of what we would like to accomplish with the new IPOPS Version 2.0. Many of the changes are in the technical back-end of the design and will not be apparent to our users, but will make a significant change in the processing and functionality of the application. Our database model in Version 2.0 will be one that is designed to eliminate as much redundant code and eliminate large numbers of documents congregated in one database. The majority of the code will be rewritten in JAVA. This enables the application to be platform independent and to take advantage of JAVA Servelets. Also a complete redesign of our views will allow users to gather all the documents available in our application in one area.
The look and feel of IPOPS will change. We want the user to navigate easily throughout the system and be able to do multiple actions on a single form. The current look will give way to a scaled down, simplified and a more efficient application. We are hoping to improve on the mass update process and allow the ability to handle incoming files from agencies. Since the inception of IPOPS we have received many helpful ideas (enhancements) from our users. We want to take advantage of these ideas and incorporate as many as we can in the new design. IPOPS edits will be more table driven with additional edits to ensure proper coding at the entry level.
We are excited about this change which involves many phases. It is estimated to take at least two years to fully complete this project; therefore, each of you will be kept informed as we progress through each phase and into its completion and implementation.
