STATE CONTROLLER JONES SHOWS
WHERE TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT
Boise, Idaho – Idaho State Controller Donna Jones announced the release of an easy to read summary of Idaho’s finances. This summary, known as the Citizens’ Financial Report, is available online at www.sco.idaho.gov. Printed copies can also be obtained by calling the State Controller’s Office at (208) 334-3150.
“Idaho’s citizens have a right to know the state collected $1.4 billion in individual income tax, and spent nearly $1.7 billion on education, and more than $1.7 billion on health and human services last year,” said Jones. “The Citizens’ Financial Report is a useful tool that helps bring transparency to government spending, and helps taxpayers become better-informed about the State’s finances.”
The Citizens’ Financial Report presents selected financial information in a brief, objective, and nontechnical format. More detailed information is presented in Idaho’s official financial statements, the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which is also available for download at www.sco.idaho.gov.
“I believe one of the best ways to streamline government and control spending is to ensure taxpayers know where their money is being spent,” concluded Jones.
The State Controller is the chief fiscal officer of state government. She manages Idaho’s fiscal affairs, which includes paying the state’s bills, paying state employees, as well as maintaining Idaho’s centralized financial management reporting and accounting systems. Jones is Idaho’s 20th State Controller, and the first woman to hold this constitutional post.
