State Controller Donna Jones Addresses
American Legion Boys State

Nampa, Idaho – State Controller Donna Jones addressed nearly 200 high school juniors participating in American Legion Boys State. The young men traveled to Nampa from across Idaho to participate in the week-long event.

“American Legion Boys State educates young men about city, county and state government by engaging them as participants in a mock government program,” said State Controller Jones. “It is an excellent program that helps reinforce the concept of civic responsibility, and it is a training ground for our future leaders.”

At American Legion Boys State, participants learn about the rights, privileges, duties, and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.

“Given the caliber of the young men I met at the American Legion Boys State, I know our communities and state will be in good hands well into the future,” concluded Jones.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a separate, similar program for young ladies called Girls State.
