State Controller Donna Jones Encourages
Young Women to Become Involved in Government

Nampa, Idaho – State Controller Donna Jones, at the annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State convention, encouraged more than 300 high school juniors to engage in the process of governing.

Jones, Idaho’s 20th State Controller and the first woman to hold the office, shared her insights and experiences as a woman working in the male dominated field of electoral politics.

She advised the young women attending Girls State, “with drive and perseverance, you can be anything you want. The only limitation you have is your attitude.”

Girls State participants are selected by their communities and represent counties across every corner of Idaho. Girls State educates young women about the process of governing by engaging them as participants in a mock government program.

“The young women attending Girls State today, are tomorrow’s leaders,” said Jones.

The American Legion sponsors a separate, similar program for young men called Boys State.
