STATE CONTROLLER DONNA JONES CONGRATULATES
IDAHO GIRLS STATE CONTROLLER KIYA ZAUGG
Boise, Idaho – Idaho State Controller Donna Jones met with her Idaho Girls State Controller counterpart Kiya Zaugg to help introduce Kiya to her new job as a constitutional officer. Ms. Zaugg, who will be a senior next year at Shelley High School, was elected Girls State Controller during the 61st annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. About 200 young women from across Idaho, including three students from Shelley, participated in Girls State last week at the Northwest Nazarene University campus in Nampa, Idaho.
Girls State is a nonpartisan program of the American Legion Auxiliary that teaches young women about being responsible citizens and helps prepare them to participate in state and local government.
“I was so excited to meet with Kiya and discuss the State Controller’s responsibilities” said Idaho State Controller Donna Jones. “She’s a smart, talented and motivated young woman who is certain to have a bright future. We’re fortunate that programs like Girls State exist to help prepare today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.”
“Programs like Girls State help open so many doors of opportunity for young women like Kiya” concluded State Controller Jones. Since the inception of the Girls State program in 1937, the program has helped nearly one million young women across America to learn first-hand how their state and local governments work.
